A workshop sponsored by Al-Sharq University and in coordination with the Executive Council of Raqqa Province and the administrative bodies in Raqqa under the slogan “Together for a clean Raqqa and a clear Euphrates”
Al-Sharq University, in cooperation with the Executive Council of Raqqa Province, and with the participation of all administrative bodies in the city, held an extensive workshop under the slogan “Together for a clean Raqqa and a clear Euphrates,” on April 19, 2025, in the presence of representatives of all institutions and bodies in the city of Raqqa and its countryside, with the aim of discussing the hygiene crisis that the region is suffering from, and coming up with a comprehensive action plan to address it.
The workshop began with the official welcome of the attendees by Al-Sharq University, followed by a speech by the joint presidency of Al-Sharq University, then a speech by the Executive Council in Raqqa, marking the start of the workshop sessions.
After extensive dialogue and exchange of views, the workshop produced a number of important outcomes, the most notable of which are:
1. Launching a public cleanliness campaign on 4/22/2025, starting at Al Sharq University.
2. Task all institutions with implementing a comprehensive awareness campaign in all neighborhoods of Raqqa city and its countryside.
3. The Parks Department will conduct a tree-planting campaign, including public parks and road medians in the city.
4. The Environment Authority will hold awareness seminars on the importance of cleanliness and environmental conservation within councils and communes, and activate their service committees.
5. The Education Directorate will raise environmental awareness among students, encourage them to practice cleanliness, and work to include "Environmental Science" in the school curriculum.
6. The Culture and Antiquities Authority will organize awareness seminars to preserve the antiquities and historical monuments of Raqqa city.
7. Prepare an organizational schedule for the cleanliness campaign, ensuring the participation of all institutions and bodies, in cooperation with residents.
8. Activate the role of the media in promoting the campaign and highlighting the importance of cleanliness and environmental protection.
9. The Islamic Conference and the Religious Council will launch an awareness campaign through mosque preachers, focusing on the importance of cleanliness and environmental conservation from a religious perspective.
10. Emphasize the implementation of the circulars and decisions issued by the People's Council in Raqqa Canton regarding accountability for those who engage in the profession of excavation.
11. Enforce municipal collection laws related to cleanliness by the People's Municipality.
12. Form a specialized committee to monitor the implementation of the workshop outcomes, including representatives from the University of the East, the People's Municipality, the Environment Authority, and the Executive Council.
The organizing bodies emphasize the importance of concerted efforts between all institutions and civil society to achieve a clean and safe environment that reflects the city's civilization and enhances the health and safety of its residents.
