The founding meeting of the Council of Universities of North and East Syria was held at Al-Sharq University over two days on 11/9/2024. The meeting was attended by representatives of the universities of North and East Syria (University of the East, Rojava, Kobani) in addition to the co-chairs of the Executive Council and the co-chairs of the Education Authority.

Professor Gian Salo, co-chair of the Institute of Graduate Studies for Social and Human Sciences at Rojava University, opened the meeting. Then, Dr. Khalil Al-Ali, co-chair of the Coordination of Universities of North and East Syria, and Professor Khalaf Al-Matar, co-chair of the Education Authority in the North and East Syria Region, gave the welcoming speech.

The first session began with reading the draft internal regulations of the Council of Universities, which were discussed in depth and detail. The meeting resulted in the formation of a council consisting of 20 members representing the university councils in North and East Syria and the Education Authority in the region.

On the second day, the attendees focused on discussing the internal regulations of the universities of North and East Syria, in addition to the academic system, with the aim of enhancing integration and academic cooperation between universities.
